Capping machinery can take many different forms, often depending on the type of capping used and the level of automation required. When production demands reach a certain level, automatic capping machines become almost a necessity, but even for low to medium production facilities, these packers have benefits.
1. Speed
Automatic capping machines can also increase the number of bottles or containers that are sealed on a production day. Manual capping, even with semi-automatic caps, takes time because each requires the operator to manually place the cap on the container before tightening it. Automatic machines include a cap delivery system that allows the operator to dump bulk caps into the hopper from time to time.
2. Versatility
Most automatic capping machines can handle a wide range of cap types and sizes as long as the tightening principle is the same. For example, spindle cappers are used to tighten screws on caps. However, automatic spindle cappers can handle flat caps, motion caps, flip caps and even trigger sprays. Different cap sizes usually require only some simple tool-free adjustments to convert from one to the other.

3. Ease of operation.
As mentioned above, once operational, the operator usually only needs to resupply bulk caps from time to time. Setup of the capper will consist of adjusting the bottle and cap combinations to be run. However, in most cases, adjustments will be made using height switches and simple manual knobs for capping components such as spindle wheels, clamping belts, conveyor guides and similar aspects of the machine.
4. Consistency, reliability, safety
When the capping process is automated, one of the biggest benefits is the repeatable operation of the capping machine. Because every cap and bottle is tightened in the same way, automated packaging equipment provides consistent, reliable and secure seals. Semi-automatic or manual capping will rely to some extent on manual labor, which includes factors such as fatigue, which can lead to inconsistent sealing and lost product. A well-maintained automated machine will handle these factors.
5. Integration
Finally, almost all automatic capping machines can be easily integrated with existing packaging lines. If a powered conveyor is being used, the machine can simply roll into an existing line and start running production after setup. In the absence of a conveyor, automatic cappers can be built with their own conveyor and set up as the first step in an automated complete packaging line.
